When it comes to answering these two questions, I always give two answers.
- The earlier you start studying, the better.
- The more you study, the better.
Now, getting past the obvious, here is my take on it.
FRESHMAN YEAR
- TBH, I didn’t study for the MCAT my freshman year, and not many people do.
- My recommendation for freshman year is honestly just to get good at using ANKI and MAYBE look at a couple passages for CARS on JackWestin.com (see rest of the guide for more info on this).
- Keep your assignments, notes, and exams all in one place so when you go to study you have them to study!
SOPHOMORE YEAR
- I really didn’t study for the MCAT my sophomore year either.
- My advice is same for freshman year and sophomore year
JUNIOR YEAR
- You really want to start studying asap junior year
- Start by doing some anki every day. Don’t jump straight into an 8hr/day study schedule as you’ll definitely get burnt out way too early.
- As you progress through junior year, start transitioning from content review (anki, YouTube, reviewing notes) to practice questions!
- For practice questions, you’re gonna want to use some 3rd party resources ! See the rest of the guide for this info !!
- I took my MCAT in the summer of Junior year! Make sure by the time you take your MCAT you have done the AAMC practice MCAT exams! (more info on this later in the guide)
